damn RMO JNR that is a nice clean setup & its still useful you dont see many installs like that anymore, but i would retrim the back floor & sub housings :)

with regards to your setup STL;
your on the right track, can you fibreglass?

6' splits are the best choice of speaker available, if you want the best quality of sound get yourself some JL audio's nothing comes close to how crisp they sound even under lots of bass

1-2 subs is all youll require id say either 1x12 or 2x10 remember its a small car

amp selection needs to be of quality as it will determine your quality, the length of time it can throw out the power & if you look at some of say blaupunkt's stuff online you will see alot more quality stuff then you will find in any store, i dont know of many amps out there that have a watt reader & will not let it put out anymore power, meaning you cant kill your speakers :) JL's cost too much to stuff & there amps will also suto turn themselves down if there getting too hot
monoblock for the sub

head unit...
well its not gonna matter a huge amount if you have a good amp, so go with what you like & suits your interior or if your good with electronics / computers it costs about $500 to build a small pc that will fit tucked away in your car & lcd screen :)
that means you have a good 500gb for movies, music etc you can do bluetooth with it, you can install a GPS antenna and use google maps for a sat nav and the list goes on & on (addons like bluetooth are only about $20!)

Thanks mate the trim is going 2 change but it might just be going black around the subs 2 make it look neat 8)

STL-12A seeing as yours is a first gen you can only fit 4" speaker in the front and 6" in the rear unless you want 2 cut into the door trims that doesn't always look that good if not done right and cos it's even smaller that a fc you only really need one 12" sub or go two 10" subs

Mine is a full Rockford system and it's stupid loud but it doesn't matter how much money you spend unless you mount everything right and if you wanna use sound detaining 2 stop everything from vibrating

Also with the front speakers don't just buy some and try 2 make them fit take your car there and check first cos it's hard 2 find 4" speakers that will fit in the front cos most of the magnets are 2 big

With the head deck make sure it has enough outputs 2 support 2 amp as in have outputs for front rear and subs cos if you use the connections 2 link the rca leads together you can't tune the front and rear speakers right or it's just and it's just 2 much of a head ack 2 make sound right 8)

I could't be bothered talking about amps right now maybe when I'm a little more awake

6x9s and subs dont go together as for splits depends on what you want to spend but you cant go past Focal or JL Audio, really never understood why anyone would want to put anything bigger than a descent 12 in their RX7.

Only reason I used 6x9's in the back is cause the previous owner cut wholes to fit 6x9's

alot of friends have had this same problem, even me at one stage all i did was make a mdf 6x9 solid panel which i screwed in place of the hole than just installed a set of good 4inch coaxils for rear fill (dont be fooled 4inchers really do scream). Problem solved

Have 6" speakers front and rear running off a amp and one 12" sub if you have 2 it might over power the sound 2 much and won't sound that good cos all u will hear is bass and it will just vibrate like crazy

And mounting the mdf then the speaker into that is a good idea cos the better they are mounted the better it will sound and harder they can pump

Just don't waste ur money on cheap speakers go through all the hard work installing it having it end up sounding shit do it right the first time and spend a little more money so once its in you don't have 2 touch it again

What people are getting at is that the front splits or speakers are the most important part of teh system. You dont want your back speakers louder or the subs overpowering.

Best advice for what speakers to get is 'what sounds best to YOU'

a mate of mine put it to me this way many years ago.....

which way do your ears face when your sitting in the car? Last time i checked mine faced forward, so the front end is the most important part of the stereo. Spend the time getting the staging right, do it properly and use some nice components. 6x9's are a waste of time and are the worst speaker on the market.

I have some Boston FS60's (yes they are old ;) ) a Vibe 12" sub and an Audison SRX3 amp and it sounds really nice :D

Run a nice quality set of 6' splits up front. Sound deaden the doors properly and 1 x 12 sub in the back of the car and thats all you would ever need in something this small. Anything else is just over kill for a nice street car.

check out www.fhrxstudios.com.au for more inspiration :D
