Steven “Soletrain” Sole is a D1NZ original, having been part of the sport in NZ almost since its inception. Widely known as the man who brought the “camo” paint job to D1NZ, Sole is the man behind the paint adorning many a New Zealand Drift Machine, and also a talented wheel man himself.



This years Tectaloy Drift Challenge will the first time competing offshore for Sole, who was present last year as part of Curt Whittakers pit crew. After being part of the experience, Sole says he started looking into ways to get to the event almost as soon as he got home.



Campaigning a JZX100 Chaser, Soles car will be reasonably distinctive in the field, as this model is certainly thin on the ground in Australia. The car is currently fully stripped awaiting fresh war paint for the occasion, and will also be sporting some new fruit care of long time supported Dodson Performance, while Taranaki based workshop Dobson Dyno Tune will ensure the 2JZ is putting plenty of power to the ground.



Sole’s entry this year comes by way of Cole Armstrongs car being in China, a car that Sole actually gave to Armstrong to get him back on his feet after an incident at last years drift event, Armstrong wanting to repay the favour by offering up his spot to his good friend for his generosity.



Sole says “This is an absolute dream come true for me, ever since I started drifting I’ve wanted to test myself offshore and now I get to do it”!
