Perhaps give Race Brakes in Yarraville a try. They make their own compounds. The RB74 was their track compound which has received pretty positive reviews on the forum. I did a quick search and at least at one point in time they did a RB74 to suit an RX2: http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=198326 It's been a while though so not sure whether they are still available.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Greg. I tried them a few months ago and they were less than helpful.

I can't even recall what their actual response was, but I remember it was some ridiculous fuck around.
It's pretty simple, but they insisted on making it as difficult as possible. They wanted a set of backing plates I think, accompanied by some unfathomable turnaround time.

I'd rather just buy a set of Hawks than have businesses treat me like I'm there to serve them.

Good to know! Saves me wasting my time, as I was thinking of getting my next set of pads from them.

It may still be worth inquiring, after all your car utilises a different brake pad being a series 3.

Anyway, the question still remains.

Does anybody know of a good DB40 race pad available locally? (Rx2, Rx4, Rx7 - s1/s2)

I remembered the other local brand i was looking at: QFM
I only took a quick look at their online catalogue and they do list a DB40 equivalent (listed as NDB40).

The road race compound for is A1RM or Comp9s.

I tried to get pads from them at the same time as the other mob, didn't get anywhere

Apparently nobody wants to take my money.

I was intending on getting them from http://www.hawkpadsdirect.com again.

I thought I'd try my luck and spoke with Racebrakes today. I realised it was about this time last year when I last spoke with them and QFM. Surprise, surprise Racebrakes were very helpful today.

They can get Hawk HP plus for $146 and they can get pads cut from Ferodo DS2500 material for $199 (pad purchase) plus $80 to cut them.

I then got in touch with QFM, was told they don't deal with the public (sigh) and got put on to a distributor that is nowhere near me. I hate hate hate hate hate hate companies that do business like this.

Anyway, the distributor was actually good. They advised that I need to supply backing plates and the cost will be $120. The kicker is a whopping and completely unrealistic turnaround time of 4-6 weeks! Hah! Great joke QFM, but where's the punch line?

Racebrakes could get the Ferodo DS2500 done before the end of the week.

I'm now left with the decision of going for the Hawks again, which suck on the street, or pay through the nose for the DS2500s which apparently have very good cold performance.

So I made the call yesterday and went for the Ferodo DS2500 front brake pads.

I have to say Racebrakes were extremely helpful this time around, so I'll retract my previous statement about my bad experience with them. Perhaps whoever I dealt with was having a shitty day, who knows.

I'm happy, should have my pads next week. I'll see how they compare to the Hawk pads. Hopefully their cold performance is much improved over the Hawks, I'm told they're very refined for a race pad.

I forgot to come back and reinstate my initial opinion of this shit business.

They ended up sending the pads out over thickness, 16mm instead of 14mm. Wouldn't fit the caliper. No biggie, send them back and get it fixed up right?
Wrong.
They fucked me around to no end, kept saying they'll arrive before the end of the week for 4 weeks straight when they hadn't even finished (perhaps even started?) the job.

I only just received them in the nick of time for racing at the rx8 nationals and the pads looked like they let a 5 year old attack them with an angle grinder.
I presented them to a local brake shop and they were horrified to see their handiwork and the fact they actually sent them out to a customer.
I insisted on a refund but they wouldn't come to the party.

So in the end I paid a shitload for some pads which looked like a dogs breakfast, still didn't fit the calipers, was out of pocket for postage, no satisfaction. Just a complete disaster.

You're fucking mental if you consider doing business with these hacks.

I'll post pics of the shitty pads if anyone is keen to see.

Mine was only NA at the time so a lot less energy to dissipate but I had lucas high temps in the front and I think bendix heavy duty rear a few years ago and did 10 laps in a row at Wakefield park on semis without fade.
