hello all craig here
just wanting a few ideas or experiences in life - re the transporting of a car from sydney to melbourne

i have a very rare opportunity to take the moffat rx7 to phillip island in november this year its a 2 day event and i am horny as and almost ready to go!!

now we have some transport already organised but the truck that takes you down also brings you back and i want to take a few days to enjoy the ride back home to sydney

so my Q n A in this matter are has someone taken a car down to melbourne on the train - good or bad ??
and i imagine one has to get their car to a loading dock or station to start the journey??
and was it possible to be on an earlier or same train to get car and enjoy rest of trip??

I have circumnavigated the railcorp website which is just pure shit , dont try the contact us , cause no-one is home and keeps pointing you in the direction of how to get lost in a web page in just 3 right cliks !!! very frustrating

anyone with info or have had an experience shoot me some story or info be great thanks craig!!

aahhhh back to the den the demon needs a little rub in the right spot!!!

All I can say to that is SEALED CONTAINER. Open car transports are target practice for rock throwing bored country kids.

Use someone that does all the hard work for you. I've used CEVA Logistics quite a few times for interstate moves and will pickup/dropoff car door to door. In the past I know they have moved a lot of show/drag cars.

I have heard that trains beat the snot out of cars, something to do with the train's suspension being too stiff whereas a car carrier absorbs the bumps?? Dunno, but I'd recommend CEVA too, more professional than some muli-carriers I've some across. I'll gladly pick it up from their depot for ya too... :D

so whats involved take it to their yard 2 or so days before you go down i guess

and the cost$$

and you got to understand the 5+yrs of work and to just let some one drive it too hear and there thats trust i cant afford or have due to how rare the car is , was pondering the idea of a 2 day drive down as well probs only cost me $ 140 to 150 in fuel to get down there but i would like to get to the racetrack all refreshed for a 2 day event

ok lets research thanks for info guys

the main probs is there is 20+ cars from our car club going and transporters are being looked into but if they take you down they would like to take you back and i wish to visit some of the country side on the way home and have a little holiday as well

lots too think about for craig!! i now there will be a cost just how much hehe dont tell the missus!!oh shit shes coming along as well

They'll take it as a non-runner so just disable the car from starting etc. Organise pickup/dropoff door to door.

At a guess would be around the $500 mark. Ring, they'll do over the phone quote.

You guys realize sometimes CEVA put cars on the rail as well?

I have used both CEVA and another company to move cars around. Recently moved my car from Adelaide to Darwin on rail and had no issues at all.

IF I wanted to avoid the risk of possible scratching etc I would defiantly be thinking about putting the car in a container or something like that.

Shop around on the net.....I got alot of quotes online and on the phone. I ended up getting my series 3 shipped from QLD - ADELAIDE for $440 from Toll. I was quite surprised at the price...and only took 3 days as well.
