just found out my car has been numbered jobed..chassis number has been removed off the shell and diff compliance plates been put on..

will i get fkd on by the rta ? or what happens

u could just stamp the new number on and leave it at that... or if you report it then you have to present the car for inspection by rta and/or police depending. then usually they just issue you with a new number that then has to be stamped on and taken to blue slip place.

Dont say nothing!!!!!!! If it was stolen or insurance job the f%$kin pigs will take your car and leave you with nothing No car and no Cash!! They dont give a shit were you got it from they will charge you with recieving stolen goods or even worse with fraud for rebirthing. It happened to a mate of mine with a boat!!!!

If its been registered before say nothing and go through the norm. If not do a revs check on the number..

There can be a number of reasons this has been done, the worst being it's stolen and been rebirthed. If that's the case it rightfully belongs to someone else and you need to do what's right and let the RTA and police know.

How would any of you feel if your Rotary got stolen and was never recovered. The car was still out there in someone else's possession with different plates on it?

So let's say you do tell the rta and the police, how do they no who it belongs to your basically giving away the car you just bought for nothing, as if you d do that. It may have been heavily defected and number were changed, EPA ect. Or smashed and needed to change numbers so it wasn't on revs. I say keep it and don't tell anyone.

Its a very shitty situation to be in but if you declare it the police dont give a shit who did it or how or when. They only care that you have it and they will charge you. And not chase the people that should be chased. And you will definately not get your money back even if they find the people that originally did the number job.

Just another example of our exceptional justice system!!!!

Remove all parts from the car. Then show it to the rta. That way they can take the shell only.
This is a shit situation. If you ignore it and get caught in a roadside check, you'll chance losing the lot.
The cops and rta are shortsighted when it comes to this situation. Expect no sympathy from either. As far as they are concerned, you are the most guilty person in the situation, and an easy one to tag it on.
Make your decision and follow that road forever.

Do a REVS check for both sets of numbers - if they are both free of encumbrances then just get it legally changed/checked at the RTA.

If either turn up as stolen or under finance etc, I think you should tell the Police/RTA. If its stolen then the car is not yours no matter how you got it. Hopefully you have a full receipt and particulars of who you bought it from to protect yourself from charges.

If it is dodgy and you get found out by another means then it will be a lot harder to argue against any charges.

Yes it is a bad situation to be in for you but you should do the right thing. Don't take what I'm going to say the wrong way. It just seems a little naive buying a car with no chassis number stamped where it should of been. I'm not saying it's your fault but if you do nothing it doesn't make you any better than the person who did this.

Apart from the right thing to do, you are not going to be able to ever sell this. If you did go to sell it and the buyer spotted this which is more than likely. You would possibly find yourself in alot more trouble than if you just sorted it out now. If you are ever roadside inspected by the police expect to be dealt with heavily. You will always be on edge because of this and if you want to spend any money on it from now it could all be lost.

There may be a good explanation for this
Maybe it had something to do with making it a series 3 or maybe it was a series 3 and someone nabbed the number for less sinister reasons so they could have a series 3
either way- i bet this is why
if its currently sold to you as a series 3 - id say thats it.

Far out- this is a huge wakeup call
-I reckon the bare shell to rta was about right- unless you do the check- its clear and then stamp it.


Have you attempted to contact previous owner-
Did it come with reg? Are you sure it was cut?
Plenty of cars have no stamp and it slips bye...
they send you down to get it stamped with an order form.

i would revs check shell and engine and see if you can wi n that way and the hassle of the revnue idiots oh what a can of worms you got there and new blank compliance plates u can get from u.s. $36.00 from memory

you bought with good intentions and did your homework and the innocent get screwed when you do the right thing tuff choice dude!!

bare shell and then go to lengths of clearing it dont sound too bad either just a good 2 weeks of work and store goodies elsewhere
