The 80's truly was the pinacle of motorsport in all forms.

Can never get enough of that type of footage from that era!! The boost, the lag, the stick shifts and the fact that the guys have so little downforce and "protection" around them really make it look easy for the modern day guys (obviously its not).

I remember when they did a demonstration with a F1 car around the streets near Colonades shopping centre (around Witton drive(?) I think) back in the 80's. No pedestrian barriers or anything, not even a few hay bales on the corners, just everyone standing on the kerb as this F1 car screamed around doing laps and demonstrated a few 10,000rpm launches.

All ended in tears though when some amatuer rally cars came out after the F1 car and they started to get a little over confident, hanging it around the corners and the inevitable happened and one car lost control and ploughed into the crowd. No one was killed, but they never did anything like that ever again.

crowd control = non existant in the 80's

was watching a video about group b rally cars in the early 80's
they were eventually banned because they were so spastically fast
spectators tried to reach out and touch them as they went past
one driver found a severed finger attached to his car after one stage..

Lucky enough to have seen these cars back in '88 for a school excursion. Great stuff.

These are long but interesting watch. Is that Martin Donnon at the controls at around 50 mins LOL. Trim pot special.
