May be the wrong section, apologies if it is, could mods move it if it is in the wrong place? thanks in advance!

Ok well! my question is fairly simple, was just wondering on prices if i were to prep the whole outside, bog and fill whatever dents i deem necessary, primer the outside ready for a spray and have it taken to a spray painters; basically all i want them to do is spray the outside, no prep, no primer, well possibly a high fill or what not final primer coat apart from that no rust/panel beating work.

What price would i be looking at for a respray job on just the outside of an 808 wagon? Im not after a perfect job worth like 10k, just a simple respray which is respectable in the factory lime/fluro green its already in! the whole car is like two tone with some patch ups so it would have to be completely redone...

Was just quoted for a roll in roll out job of putting on green base and clear top etc etc with primer done by them also (all i do is bogging/sanding) would be close to 3 - 4k.... (this was by a big smash repair place down the road from me)

Anyone know of any places in brisbane which do good jobs and cheaper? was hoping this would be around the 2k mark.....? just want a factory colour, nothing fancy.

I have nothing against boostcruising, and its probably just as good and all, but i would rather an actual paint and panel do it, i dont want the cheapest job on the planet, im cool with paying 4k but i have found that cdr have a special going and i was talking to the cdr paint and panel guys last weekend at a car show about my little mazda and they loved it - thankfully one was a mazda lover! And got in touch with him today and they said they would do a solid colour (factory green as it is now) and primer+highfill for $2500... more in my price range!

Still a lot of hous in doing it all, blocking her back, still be more prep, etc.

That $2500 price i was given is a special till the end of this month or something like that, but they said, provided I dont take em on a ride and screw em around, they are willing to give me that deal till end of july + couple of weeks. :D

If you were in Melbourne I'd do it for 2g and have its pretty straight in good paint
4g what a rip
Place down here that does bear metal resprays and repairs for 4g mark

Yeah exactly my thoughts man, I knew they would be expensive, they are one of those racq insured repair-er places, like takes insurance jobs. So i knew they would be expensive. I had hoped only like $500 more, seeing as they are literally at the end of my street I could have driven the car down as is with barely any panels and in bog etc and no towing, could check on it each day etc. But for 4g, I would just like to offload tothem as is, dents and all, tell them to baremetal and repair then spray.....

2.2-2.5 sounds much more reasonable :D

I don't think $4000 is excessive for a proper shop to do a full respray as they can be alot more expensive than that. When it comes to getting a car painted prices will range but it will reflect in the end result. Usually a cheap job will be a quick rough job using cheaper quality paint etc. Some shops won't lower their standards and will charge accordingly as it's their reputation. No matter what, the finish will only ever be as good as the prep, so what may seem good to you may not be to them. What I mean is a car presented in primer apparently ready to be painted. But it ends up needing hours more prep or repairs to be redone as its not satisfactory to paint.

^^where were you when i was trolling this forum for spraypainters about a year ago as a newbie, arsehole?

Yeah $2.5k is pretty good, i shopped around a bit and ended up getting mine done for $3k, thats with me having rubbed, repaired, hifilled and rubbed the car myself. They rubbed it back a bit more and the car and all the bits were in and out in 48hrs. came up pretty good.

Dam :| Didnt this thread turn from a simple question relation to brisbane spray painting to an everything all out war?

@1oldrx3: Agreed, some paint jobs do cost that. however if you read my post, Im after a simple respray, solid colour, im doing prep, in a factory mazda colour.... Im not after some metallic layered job and i never will be, that sort of paint should be kept off mazdas in my honest opinion.....

nothing to do with colour.. its all in the prep
if you can do a 'proper' prep on the car you will save money
otherwise as previously mentioned it will look average
